Allergy Season Has Arrived in February for Florida
The allergy season in Florida begins in February and board certified allergy physician in Fort Myers provides helpful tips to reduce symptoms.
FORT MYERS, Fla. – Feb. 12, 2016 – For anyone who suffers from springtime allergies, they may have noticed that their symptoms may be flaring up. Increased allergens such as high levels of pollen have arrived.
The southern states are prone to spring allergy effects earlier than the other states, with certain parts of Florida, especially those without a sea breeze, being more susceptible. The warmer and humid climate is perfect for the growth of pollen producing plants. The climate also allows pollen to saturate the air longer, especially on dry days when there is no rainfall.
According to the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, trees such as oak, birch and elm are the major pollen producing plants this time of year in Florida. Preventative measures include:
1. Avoiding the outdoors between 5 A.M. and 10 A.M., saving outdoor activities for the afternoon or after heavy rainfall.
2. Keeping all windows and doors closed to reduce exposure, and using air conditioners instead to keep cool.
3. Drying clothes in an automatic dryer instead of a clothesline outside.
“It is important to remember that not all allergy symptoms are triggered by the spring season. Only by seeing a specialist for a thorough evaluation of your symptoms can determine which types of pollen and other allergens causes an allergic reaction,” said Imtiaz Ahmad, M.D., Board Certified physician and founder of Allergy Sleep & Lung Care.
